it appears your blog acts up in a couple web browsers.

Anytime I check out your site in Safari, it looks fine however, when opening in Firefox, it has some

Phil - We probably think of inspired a little differently. I don't think of God writing scripture so it would not be him that wrote a myth from my perspective. I see it more like if a person was inspired by God to write something then that person might be more inclined to use a myth to describe what God inspired in him/her. But I more likely see scripture as a collection of stories (some of them being myths) that people have written in an effort to describe the best they can their own understanding of God - much of it coming out of inspiration from God ... but I believe that sometimes people probably misunderstood what God was trying to convey. For instance, I think a lot of descriptions of God in the old testament were probably incorrect.

I think the 'traditional' view will always be that God is truth, therefore the Bible is truth (not fiction). In other words, How could God, who is all truth, write a myth? (If you believe that the Bible is inspired by God). In todays world the words 'myth' and 'fiction' seem to be interchangable. I agree that myth is a powerful way to convey truth but did God need to use myth? Breaking with 'traditional views' will always raise a truckload of questions. Thanks for your post.

Interesting!

So for you, it is not simply a "What if" question. For you the "What if" is actually "What is."

Still, I like how you handled the question. You said: "I believe that myths not only reveal truth but that they have an uncanny ability to enlighten and transform."

Yes. Sometimes, "myth" is "truer" than historical fact.
